How to Make an Indian Feather Hair Extension
Feather hair extensions can add style to any outfit. They are typically worn while your hair is down. Some opt to include a feather or two in braids, but those are not true extensions, as they're held in place by the braid. For a Native American look, opt for natural ostrich or pheasant feathers that haven't been dyed, or select earth tone-colored feathers. The feather hair extension may contain one feather or many, and you may opt to wear just one or several extensions.
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a 3-inch length of craft wire from the spool using wire snippers.
-
2
Wrap the wire around the feather shaft, approximately a half-inch up from the base of the feather. The base of the feather is the thickest portion of the shaft, where it attaches to the bird. Wrap the wire tightly around the feather five times.
-
-
3
Fold the half-inch tip of the feather so it touches the wire wrapping.
-
4
Wrap the wire tightly around the feather shaft and the folded-over tip. Five or six wrappings is sufficient.
-
5
Attach the feather hair extension to a contour clip by wrapping the wire around the top prong, or attach it directly into your hair by wrapping the wire around the base of a section of hair.

Tips & Warnings
Attach the feather hair extension to a section of hair that's on the side of your head, not on the top. If it's on the top of your head, the wire or clip will be visible. Place the extension on the side of your scalp, so the base is hidden by the hair.
Opt for a clip if you have sleek, straight hair, because the wire is more apt to slide off the hair.
Skip the clip and attach the extension directly onto a section of hair if you have curly or wavy hair. The wire wrapping is less apt to slide off.
The hair extension can be attached to other items like hair elastics, combs and other types of clips.
