Instructions

    • 1

Trace around the sole your right foot on a piece of card stock with a pen. Label the piece of card stock "right foot." Using scissors, cut the outline out of the card stock. Repeat the process with your left foot on another piece of card stock and label it. Cut the outline out.

    • 2

Place the card stock cutouts on separate pieces of felt. Cut around each outline, so that the felt matches the outline. Do this twice with each card stock cutout to create an inner and outer sole for both feet. Keep the matching pieces of felt and card stock cutouts together.

    • 3

Drape a piece of felt over each foot. Trace a U shape around each foot, making sure that there is roughly a 1/4 inch of extra felt all the way around the foot inside each tracing. The open part of the U should be at the heel. Before taking the felt off of your feet, trace a smaller U shape inside the first tracing. This is the opening for your feet. The tracing for the opening should not expose the toes. Cut out each tracing. Keep the two larger U shapes and place them with the other outlines from the same foot.

    • 4

Take the two soles for each foot and pin them together using straight pins. You should have two sets of soles, one inner and one outer. Thread a needle and sew all the way around the sole. Knot and cut the thread. Take the pins out. Do this for each pair of soles.

    • 5

Pin the U shapes to their corresponding soles and pin the open top of the U shape together at the back of the foot. Thread a needle and sew each large U shape to its sole. Knot and cut the thread and take out the pins. Insert your foot and check that opening is wide enough. If it isn't, trim the opening with scissors until you can comfortably fit your foot in both slippers.

Measure the distance across the opening of the slipper in the middle of your foot, beginning a 1/2 inch from the opening on each side. Do this for both feet. Cut out a piece of felt that is equal to each distance and that is a half-inch wide. This is the strap for your Mary Jane-style slippers. Thread a needle and sew a one strap over the opening of each slipper across the middle of your foot. Knot and cut the thread. You can now add buttons or felt cutout decorations to further personalize your slippers.

Spread puffy paint over the bottoms of each slipper to create no-slip soles. Apply at least two layers of puffy paint to each. Wait for the paint to dry before wearing the slippers.
