How to Make a Snack Drawer
The best defense against unhealthy snacking is to keep healthy, tasty snacks on hand for when the munchies strike. Whether you are at the workplace or at home, creating a snack drawer is convenient and, if you make the right choices, healthy as well. Since it provides the reassurance that there is always something healthy to eat only a drawer away, you can withhold from buying fast food, spending money on vending machines or taking advantage of complimentary, and fattening, brownies and doughnuts provided by your employer. - Plastic containers
- Tea bags
- Water bottle
- Fruits
- Oatmeal or chocolate chip granola bars
- Small ziplock bags
- Almonds
- Sunflower seeds
- Pumpkin seeds
- Whole wheat pretzels
- Plastic forks
- Spoons
- Napkins
- Cup

Place a large plastic, sealable container in the drawer to hold your snacks and supplies.

Stock up on healthy drinks, including small bottles of water and a box of tea bags to prevent you from turning to sugary soft drinks when thirsty. Always store an extra water bottle.

Keep at least two choices of fruit, such as an orange, apple or banana, on hands at all times.

Keep a few heavier but healthy snacks for "skipped breakfast" days, such two or three boxes of raisins and whole-wheat grain crackers.

Place your sweets in the middle section of the container. Include oatmeal or chocolate chip granola bars. Get a few small sandwich bags and individually pack sweet goodies.

Keep a few nuts and salty snacks on hand, including almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, whole wheat pretzels and honey-roasted peanuts.

Include a small selection of all basic utensils, such as plastic forks, spoons, napkins and chopsticks. Also include a small plastic bowl, a cup, cough drops and small packets of salt and pepper.

Be sure to keep inventory about what you include your drawer. Only include items that are non-perishable and do not need refrigeration.
