How to Dress as Mary Poppins for Halloween
Mary Poppins uses discipline mixed with a spin of magic to educate and care for the Banks' children in the book "Mary Poppins," originally by the author P.L. Travers, which was adapted into a film in 1964. Replicate her prim and proper appearance with items you or your friends have in your closets or find at a thrift store.
Things You'll Need
- White blouse
- Red ribbon
- Black skirt
- Belt
- Black or blue jacket
- Wide-brimmed hat
- Boots
- White gloves
- Umbrella
- Tapestry bag
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase or borrow a plain white button-up blouse.
-
2
Make a bow-tie out of red ribbon and place it on your chest above the top button of the blouse. If you want to make the process simple, get a pin-on bow or one that fastens with hook-and-loop tape.
-
-
3
Find a full or 3/4-length black skirt. Cinch it tightly at the waist the same way Mary does in the film using a belt.
-
4
Wear a fitted jacket over your blouse in either black or blue.
-
5
Add a wide-brimmed bright hat and stick a flower on it. Both real and fake will work for the task.
-
6
Keep your feet classy with black ankle or strapped boots with a heel on them.
-
7
Wear white gloves and carry along along your trusty umbrella and a tapestry bag to let your fellow trick-or-treaters know exactly who you're dressed up as.
