DIY: How to Lift Refrigerators
Moving heavy appliances like refrigerators can take its toll on your back. The adage “lift with your legs and not your back” doesn’t do you any good when you cannot straddle what you are lifting, and most people certainly cannot straddle a refrigerator. Protect your back when lifting and moving a refrigerator by preparing properly and using the right equipment, a dolly and moving belts. Does this Spark an idea?

Empty the refrigerator and freezer of their contents and throw away anything that is perishable. Unplug the refrigerator and let it defrost.

Tape the drawers, shelves and doors into place with packing tape. That way the parts can’t move around and break while you are moving the refrigerator.

Move the dolly up against the refrigerator and slide the refrigerator out from against the wall. Gently slide the dolly under the refrigerator.

Secure the refrigerator to the dolly with moving belts.

Tip the dolly back and push the refrigerator to its new location.
