Hanging Stockings Without a Mantel

If you have a fireplace with a mantel, hanging Christmas stockings requires nothing more than a stocking hanger. If your home does not have a mantel, you need to employ a bit more creativity to put those stockings where Santa can reach them. You may use a number of techniques to get those stockings hung up and looking great, and the best choice depends on your home decor, taste and stye.

Things You'll Need

• Decorative nails
• Stud finder
• Hammer

Instructions

1. Look around for any pieces of furniture that could serve as a replacement for the mantel you do not have. You can hang stockings from the entertainment center, a large bookcase or even a desk.

2. Mount decorative nails on the furniture you have chosen. Decorative nails are available at hardware stores, home improvement centers and many discount retailers.

3. Hang the stockings from the decorative nails. Adjust the stockings so they look attractive in the room.

4. Mount decorative nails along the door frames of the room and hang stockings from them.

5. Use a stud finder to find a post on a wall and pound the decorative nails directly into the wall. Hang the stockings from the nails and adjust them as needed.
