How to Finish the Ho-Oh Puzzle in "Pokemon Gold"
In “Pokemon Gold,” one of your side quests will involve exploring the Ruins of Alph, a mysterious area inhabited by Psychic-type Pokemon called Unown. To capture all the Unown, you’ll need to solve four puzzles located around the area. One of these puzzles features Ho-oh, a legendary Pokemon that resembles a phoenix.

Enter Union Cave in the south section of Route 32.

Descend the stairs in the northwest corner of the first chamber of the cave.

Surf north across the underground lake in the basement chamber.

Ascend the stairs in the northwest corner of the basement.

Surf northwest across the next underground lake to reach another set of stairs.

Emerge from Union Cave and enter the hut to your right.

Step up to the tablet in the middle of the room to begin the puzzle.

Place the four corner pieces in their places at the tips of the puzzle.

Slide the eight pieces that compose the borders of the puzzle into place. Two will fit at the top, two will line the right side, two will line the left side and two will fit at the bottom of the puzzle.

Fill in the center with the four remaining pieces. Ho-oh’s head should be facing left when you’re done. After you complete the puzzle, the floor will open beneath you, dropping you into another chamber in the ruins.
