How to: Fabric Applique on a Shirt

Attach a fabric applique anywhere on a shirt you wish.

An applique is an embellishment, usually made of fabric, that can be sewn directly to any piece of clothing to give it a little flair. While a fabric applique can give a dramatic change to any shirt, actually attaching it is pretty simple and can be completed with little sewing experience. Fabric appliques come in an array of colors and designs and can be purchased in craft stores and online.

Things You'll Need

• Sewing pins
• Threaded needle or loaded sewing machine
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Place the shirt on a flat surface and set the applique exactly where you wish for it to be in the final product.

2. Secure the applique to the shirt using sewing pins.

3. Stitch the applique to the shirt using a threaded needle or loaded sewing machine. Regardless of which method you use, make sure the stitches outline the entire applique.

4. Knot the thread behind the applique, inside of the shirt, and cut away the needle using a pair of scissors.
