How to Crochet Footies
Footies are snug-fitting plain house shoes that you can wear over or in lieu of socks. Making crocheted footies is a clever way to use leftover yarn while creating a custom item. The project is inexpensive and well suited to novice crocheters. Adult women's crocheted footies require only a few basic stitches and a bit of contouring. Begin crocheting the toe section in spiral rounds, then continuously crochet the back and sides of the footie in rows to complete the slipper.

Do one half-double crochet stitch in each of the first 15 stitches from edge of the toe section, leaving three stitches open. Chain two and turn. In the second row of the side portion of the slipper, increase by one stitch on each end, making a total of 17 stitches in the row. Chain two and turn. Crochet the next seven rows with half-double crochet stitches. Chain two and turn between each row. At the end of the ninth row, chain two and turn.

Contour the slipper to form a heel cup. On the 10th row, do half-double crochet stitches in stitches one through seven, and double crochet in stitches eight, nine and 10. Finish the row with half-double crochet in stitches 11 through 17. Chain two and turn. Repeat row 10 to crochet row 11.

Turn the slipper inside out. Align the back edges of the slipper. Thread 16 inches of yarn onto a yarn needle. Stitch the back edge of the footie heel together using a whip-stitch. Tie off the yarn ends and weave in loose yarn. Turn the slipper right-side out.

Tips & Warnings
The pattern makes slippers to fit women's size medium (7 to 8). Add or subtract rows in the sides portion to make the slipper longer or shorter. The footie stretches to fit a wide range of sizes. Note alterations in the pattern.
