How to Make Hair Decorations for Toddlers

Make a felt bow clip to pull back longer hair.

Whether it is your own little girl or the child of an acquaintance, it is hard to resist wanting to add accessories to a toddler's hairdo. Using basic craft supplies, you can make your own hair decorations for kids. Depending on how long the toddler's hair is, certain accessories may be more appropriate than others. Make hair decorations in several styles and let the toddler choose her favorite.

Things You'll Need

• Ribbon
• Fabric fastener
• Glue gun
• Thread
• Needle
• Tape Measure
• Bobby pins
• Buttons
• 1/8-yd fabric
• Hair clip
• Felt

Instructions

Fabric Fastener Clip

1. Measure and cut a 2 1/4-inch piece of ribbon.

2. Fold your ribbon in half.

3. Measure and cut 7/8-inch of fabric fastener. Glue the top half of the fabric fastener onto the left half of the ribbon. Glue the bottom half of the fabric fastener onto the right half of the ribbon. This completes the clip section.

4. Cut a second piece of ribbon, 10 inches long. Make a loop in your ribbon and hold it together in your left hand. Squash the loop down to where you are holding the ribbon together and sew together in the center. Wrap your thread around the center of the bow. Trim the ends of the bow so that they are even.

5. Glue your bow onto the clip section.

Button Bobby Pin Clips

1. Place a dab of glue on the base of the bobby pin.

2. Attach your button to the bobby pin.

3. Add additional buttons to the bobby pin, if you like.

Fabric Flower Clip

1. Cut eight, 3-inch diameter circles from your fabric.

2. Fold one of your circles in half. Fold it in half two more times. Use your scissors to trim the points, making them rounded. This makes one flower petal.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 with the remaining seven fabric circles.

4. Cut a 2-inch diameter felt circle. Glue each petal to your felt circle. Glue a button into the center of your flower.

5. Cut a second 1-inch diameter felt circle. Glue this to the back of your flower, then glue your flower onto your hair clip.
