How to Crochet an Irish Leaf
One of the interesting things about crocheting is that you can make any pattern your own. For example, you can crochet an Irish leaf onto any crocheted item, such as a blanket, purse, scarf, hat or sweater. You can make the leaf large or small, based on your preference. An Irish leaf resembles a three-dimensional leaf with ridges along the sides.

1
Crochet 15 chain stitches. This is your foundation row, which is the first row of the Irish leaf. The foundation row consists of making a slip knot at the end of the yarn.
-
2
Place the slip knot over the shaft of the crochet hook. Bring the yarn over clockwise from back to front and insert the hook into the chain stitch. Draw the yarn and hook through the loop to form a new loop. Repeat for each chain.

3
Make a single crochet in the third stitch from the crochet hook. Single crochet in the next 11 stitches, then work three single crochets in the last stitch of your starting chain.
-
4
Continue to make single crochets along the other side of the starting chain to the end of your chain. Do not turn the oval you just made. The last stitch at the end of your skinny-shaped oval is the end stitch and is the end of row two.
-
5
Work three single crochet stitches in the end stitch of your skinny-shaped oval. Continue to make single crochet stitches in each stitch until the last three stitches. Chain one stitch and then turn. You have made the end of row three.
-
6
Work a single crochet in each stitch until you reach the last three stitches. In the last stitch, crochet three single crochets in the end stitch. Work a single crochet in each stitch until the last three stitches from the end. Chain one stitch and turn the leaf. Row four is completed.
-
7
Repeat row four of the pattern until you have the desired length of your leaf. You should work only half of row four for the last row of your leaf.

Tips & Warnings
If you want a pointier tip to your leaf, then chain three stitches instead of one when you come to row three.
To accomplish the ridge effect crochet, crochet in the back of each row.
