How to Configure Twitter in Drupal

The Drupal Twitter module integrates several functions of the Twitter API into your site, including the automatic posting of new content and Twitter sign ins for users. This module, however, is not a simple install and use module. It requires a bit of configuration, and also requires you to register your site with Twitter and create a developer's application.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your Drupal site and click on "Administer." Click on "Modules," and then check the box next to "OAuth," "Twitter," "Twitter Actions," and "Twitter Post." If you want to enable Twitter sign-ins, check the box next to "Twitter Sign In." Click on "Save Configuration."

    • 2

Click on "Configuration" then click on "Twitter Setup." Note the "Callback URL." Either write it down or highlight and copy it with your mouse.

    • 3

Visit the Twitter Developer site. Click on "Create an App." Sign in with your Twitter account. If you don't have one, click on "Sign Up."

    • 4

Create a name for your application then enter your website URL. In the "Callback URL" section, type or paste the OAuth callback URL you recorded. Click on "Create Twitter Application."

    • 5

Highlight and copy the "Consumer Key" and "Consumer Secret." Click on "Save."

    • 6

Access your Drupal admin panel and click on "Site Configuration." Click on "Twitter Setup," and then paste the consumer secret and consumer key. Click on "Save Configuration."

    • 7

Click on "Post" in the Twitter setup menu. Choose the text to appear before your content's automatic Twitter updates. By default, it shows "New Post" followed by the article's name. Change the "New Post" field, if desired.

    • 8

Choose which types of content you want to automatically post to Twitter (page, story, etc.). Click on "Save Configuration."

    • 9

Click on "Sign In" if you enabled the Twitter sign-in option. Choose the Twitter log in logo you want to use and click "Save."
