How to Fix Hijacked Google Links

If your Internet browser has been hijacked by a computer hacker, all Internet searches conducted through a search engine, such as Google, are automatically redirected to spam pages filled with advertising. The only way to fix this it to remove the virus causing the Google links to be hijacked. Windows computers come installed with a program called Windows Defender that is capable of detecting and removing the Google hijack virus.

Instructions

    • 1

Exit out of any open Web browsers.

    • 2

Click the “Start” button located in the bottom-left of your screen. The Start menu appears.

    • 3

Type “Windows Defender” in the Search box located at the bottom of the Start menu. The Windows Defender program launches.

    • 4

Click “Scan” from the top menu, then select “Full Scan.” Windows Defender performs a full scan on your hard drive to locate the Google hijack files. The files are quarantined and automatically removed. This process could take one to several hours depending on how badly infected your computer is.

    • 5

Click the “X” located in the upper-right corner of the Windows Defender window to close out of the tool after the Google hijack files have been removed.
