Craft thread is often used to weave bracelets.

Friendship bracelets are a fun project for kids and teens to make for their friends. Knitting a friendship bracelet takes practice; however, once you master the skill, the possibilities are endless. Among the many variations of friendship bracelets, the candy stripe bracelet is a favorite of beginners. Make this bracelet with several colors of string to make diagonal stripes of each color. You will need at least three separate strands to make a bracelet, and you can make it wider by using two to three strands of each color.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut each color of craft string into 60-inch lengths.

    • 2

Line up the strings at the ends and fold in half to find the middle.

    • 3

Pull the middle to make a loop and knot all the strands together about 1 inch from the loop.

    • 4

Open the clip on the clipboard and insert the loop under the clip. Close the clip so the knot is secure behind it and when you pull the strands of string, the knot does not come loose.

    • 5

Separate the strands by color to make thick stripes of each color, or alternate the colors to make skinny stripes of each color. These instructions are for a bracelet with six strands that will be about 1/2-inch wide.

    • 6

Pick up the strand on the far left with your right hand. Pick up the strand beside it with your left. Hold the second strand straight down while you pull the first strand towards the left and then bring the end across the second strand. The two strands will look like a number 4.

    • 7

Bring the tail of the first strand under and around the second strand and through the number 4. Pull the strings in opposite directions so the knot moves tight against the clip of the clipboard. Repeat to make a second knot.

    • 8

Pick up the third strand with your left hand and make a knot with the first strand the same as before. Repeat to make a second knot. Repeat on the fourth, fifth and sixth strands to make one stripe.

    • 9

Move the strand you were knotting with to the far right.

    • 10

Pick up the strand that is on the far left. Pick up the strand right next to it. Hold the second strand with your left hand straight down and use the first strand to make a knot. Pull the knot tightly and make a second. Knot the row, making two knots on each strand. Repeat this process, moving the string you are knotting with to the last position each time.

    • 11

Continue knotting until the bracelet is the desired length. Then, tie all the ends of the strands in a knot and trim the tails.

    • 12

Lay the bracelet over your arm and push the knot at the end through the loop made at the beginning.
