How to Make a Heart Shaped Pillow With a Sewing Machine
If you have mastered sewing a straight line with your sewing machine, it is time to take your skills to another level by sewing a heart-shaped pillow. A heart-shaped pillow is relatively easy to make, but it does require you to sew along curves. You can make the pillow any size you would like, from a large floor cushion to a pocket-sized keepsake. Use the pillows to decorate your living room for Valentine's Day or give one to the special someone in your life.
Things You'll Need
- Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- 2 pieces fabric, large enough for the heart pattern
- Straight pins
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine
- Chopstick or turner
- Polyester pillow stuffing
- Hand sewing needle

1
Draw half of a heart on a piece of paper. Draw it in the same that you would on a folded piece of paper, so that it would create a whole heart when unfolded. Cut out the half heart shape.
-
2
Fold both pieces of your fabric in half, right sides facing in. Pin the half heart to one piece of fabric, lining up the straight edge of the heart with the folded edge of the fabric. Cut the fabric out around the half heart. Make sure you cut through both layers of fabric. You will end up with a single, full heart once it is cut out and unfolded. Repeat with the second piece of fabric.

3
Lay the two full heart pieces one on top of the other, right sides facing in. Pin them togther along the outside border.
-
4
Sew the heart pieces together with your sewing machine, leaving a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave a 3-inch gap unsewn so that you can turn the pillow right side out and stuff it.
-
5
Turn the pillow right side out. Use a chopstick or turner to gently push out the rounded edges and the point of the heart.
-
6
Stuff the heart as full as you can with the polyester batting.
-
7
Pin the opening, then hand sew it shut, tucking the raw edges inside the pillow. Your pillow is now finished.
