Instructions

    • 1

Lay the refrigerator box on its side so that the longer side touches the ground. Insert the edge of the utility knife into the corner of the box and push away from yourself along the seam. Cut along the seam, removing the top of the box. Set the top to one side.

    • 2

Fold the top of the box in half, creating a "V" shape from the cardboard. Set the poster board on the long sides of the box top and arrange pieces of duct tape on the back. The poster board lengthens the cardboard and makes the top of the doghouse. Place the "V" shape on top of the doghouse and glue in place.

    • 3

Cut two triangles from the remaining poster board. Glue the poster board pieces to the front and back of the doghouse where the roof meets the top of the box. The pieces act as the ends of the roof and help keep the roof attached to the box.

    • 4

Draw a door on the front of the doghouse, making a rectangle shape or an arched shape. Run the utility knife along the drawing, cutting out the door. Or, cut along the bottom and sides of the door, making a pet door on the front of the house.

    • 5

Paint the bottom of the box in one shade and paint the roof a different color. For a traditional look, paint the doghouse white and the roof red. Pick any two colors you like. Once the paint dries, your doghouse is ready.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a fun look, paint small black paw prints along the sides and front of the doghouse.

  • Add a dish of party food and a dish of water near the entrance to the doghouse.

  • Paint “doghouse” on a piece of poster board or cardboard and string a piece of rope through the top. Hang the sign from the roof.
