Bumblebee costumes are popular amongst children and teens.

When holidays and celebrations call for costumes, making a homemade or do-it-yourself costume can save you money and trips to a costume or novelty store. Bumblebee costumes are popular amongst teens and young adults, are easy-to-make and attract quite a buzz. Many different versions of a bumblebee costume exist, but most center around a black shirt or dress covered with yellow stripes. A hat with antennas offers a personal touch, as does a tu-tu, face-paint and a set of wings.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap yellow or golden ribbon around different sections of your chest, ribs and stomach. Mark where the ribbon wraps fully around you with a pen or pencil and cut multiple strips of ribbon.

    • 2

Lay your black shirt or dress facing upward on a flat surface. Apply glue to your pieces of cut ribbon and apply them to the shirt. Once the glue sets on the front side, flip the shirt or dress and repeat the gluing application process on the back side.

    • 3

Spray paint two styrofoam balls with black spray paint and set aside to dry. The balls will be used as the bulbous end of your bumblebee's antennas, so balls that are 1 to 2 inches in diameter are recommended.

    • 4

Glue two black pipe cleaners to your cap. The pipe cleaners will act as your costume's antennas. Once the glue bonding your pipe cleaners and hat has set, glue your dried and painted styrofoam balls to the end of your pipe cleaners.
