How to Crochet Coasters for Men

Start each crochet with a row of chains.

Crocheted coasters are an ideal handmade craft that can be sold at fundraisers and fairs. Your coasters need to be thick enough to protect the surface they sit on, as well as being washable. Select a machine-washable, worsted-weight yarn for this project and a smaller crochet hook for the yarn. Choose dark colors or popular sports team colors for your yarn. Use chain stitch to ensure the coasters are compact in texture.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a slip stitch with the tail of your yarn and slip it onto your hook. A slip stitch is made by forming a loop and then pulling another loop through it.

    • 2

      Crochet 40 chain stitches.

    • 3

Crochet your first row by making a chain stitch in the second chain from the hook and every subsequent chain. Make stitches by sliding your crochet hook into the chain and bringing the yarn from the back to the front of the hook and pulling it back through the chain stitch and the existing stitch on the hook.

    • 4

Continue crocheting rows of chain stitches until your coaster is square. Depending on your specific tension while crocheting, your coasters will be approximately 4-inches square.

    • 5

Cut the yarn and pull the tail of it through the loop on the hook. Thread the yarn through a darning needle and sew a few stitches into the underside of the coaster to secure the yarn, before trimming off excess yarn.
