How to Make a Monkey Puppet Out of Felt
Purchasing a monkey puppet can be very expensive; making your own monkey puppet can be a fun and inexpensive activity for you and you children or students. In addition, felt is an excellent tool because it comes in a wide range of colors and is very user-friendly. Although this felt monkey puppet is created using traditional “monkey” colors of felt, choosing different colors can help to make this felt monkey puppet your own personalized toy.

Instructions
-
-
1
Download a template and print out the various pieces for the monkey puppet.
-
2
Cut all of the pieces of the template out in brown felt, except the mouth, nose, tummy and inner ear pieces. The mouth and nose are cream colored, the tummy is light brown, and the inner ear pieces are whatever pattern you choose.
-
-
3
Line up the inner and outer ear pieces with the flat sides together. Sew with a simple overstitch or glue the two ear pieces together.
-
4
Place the tummy piece centered on the body piece. Pin the tummy in place and sew or glue the pieces together.
-
5
Place two of the arm pieces lined-up on top of each other, pin in place, and sew them together. Place the other two arm pieces lined-up on top of each other; pin and sew together.
-
6
Place the two ears as marked between the face and back pieces, pin them in place (lining up the round ends of the face and back pieces). Sew along the outer rim of the face piece.
-
7
Fold the mouth piece of felt in half lengthwise. Sew a running stitch straight along the fold.
-
8
Sew the “bottom lip” of the mouth piece to the back of the body piece by folding the rounded edge of the body forward and placing the mouth lined up with the edge.
-
9
Pin the nose piece to the “upper lip” of the mouth piece and sew in place along the edge.
-
10
Pin, glue or affix the monkey’s eyes in place on the face piece, depending on the type of eyes you use.
-
11
Lay the body on top of the back piece, line up the top of the nose right under the eyes. Pin the pieces together and sew along the top of the nose. The body piece is slightly longer than the back piece.
-
12
Insert the arms into the sides of the opening between the body and the back, about 2-inches down from the mouth; pin the pieces in place.
-
13
Sew around the edges of the body, leaving the bottom edge open.
-
14
Stuff a handful of stuffing into the top of the monkey’s head.
-
15
Add any extra embellishments, such as pins or buttons, to personalize your felt monkey puppet.
