How to Make a Werewolf Hand Puppet

Hand puppets, a favorite children's toy, can be made from a wide variety of materials. Making puppets, including werewolf puppets, can also be a fun craft -- children can enjoy making the puppet as well as playing with it. If making this puppet with a child, supervise his use of scissors and hot glue.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the cardboard in half, then fold one of the resulting pieces in half. Cut out the shape of a wolf snout so the rear of the snout runs along the folded edge. Do not cut off the back fold of the snout.

    • 2

Cut the other piece of cardboard into two eye and two ear shapes. Use acrylic paint to fill in the eyes, and paint the ears brown. Unfold the snout and paint a tongue and throat on the inside surface.

    • 3

Cut the rest of the cardboard into small triangles to use as teeth. Paint these white. Let all the cardboard pieces dry completely.

    • 4

Fold the cardboard snout back in half. Pinch the snout and insert it into the sock, pushing gently until the front edge of the snout sits against the toe end of the sock.

    • 5

Remove your hand from the sock. Cut of the left and right edges of the sock's toe end so the material is in the same shape as the snout.

    • 6

Peel back the top of the sock to reveal the cardboard snout. Apply hot glue to the unpainted side of the cardboard, then press the sock back onto the cardboard. Repeat this step with the bottom of the snout.

    • 7

Glue the eye and ear pieces onto the sock in the appropriate places. Set aside to harden.

    • 8

Fold the fabric square in half, then cut out a T-shirt shape approximately as long as your sock. On the side with the fold, do not cut the sleeves free of each other; cut only down the side of the shirt from the armpits to the bottom hem.

    • 9

Wrap the T-shirt around the sock so the front of the T-shirt faces forward. Carefully cut tatters into the neck and sleeves of the shirt on the front and the back to give a shredded appearance.

    • 10

Peel back the T-shirt and add hot glue on the front of the sock where the shirt should sit flat. Gluing under the shoulders and the sides can help give the T-shirt a natural appearance. Press the T-shirt into the glue and allow to harden. Repeat this step for the back of the shirt.

    • 11

Glue the teeth-shaped cardboard along the underside rim of the snout. Allow to harden.

    • 12

Use the Sharpie marker to draw a nose and any wrinkles on the face.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the acrylic paint sparingly -- too much will warp the cardboard from moisture.

  • Do not apply the hot glue too far back when securing the sock and the snout together, because the puppeteer's hand will use the cardboard snout to operate the puppet.
