How to Ace an Interview for Telemarketing thumbnail
Sell yourself to a telemarketing interviewer.

In some cases, a telemarketing interview consists of two parts, a telephone interview and an in-person interview. The telephone interview helps the interviewer weed out people not suitable for the job. There are certain qualities the interviewer is looking during the telephone interview. If your exude those qualities, you move to the in-person interview. Knowing the exact questions the interviewer will ask is impossible. However, with preparation, you can ace the interview.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice using good grammar. The interviewer will be assessing your grammatical skills during the phone interview. Avoid using slang or broken English.

    • 2

Sound pleasant and likable during the phone interview. Smile with your voice. To smile with your voice, smile with your mouth. Allow your unique personality to shine through. Be funny and charismatic.

    • 3

Know your statistics from previous sales or telemarketing jobs (if applicable). Know how many sales you averaged. Know how many calls you averaged per day.

    • 4

Practice what you will say if the interviewer asks for an example of a time you had to deal with an irate caller. For instance, you can explain why the caller was irate and what you did to calm him down. If you have no real-life examples, say so and give an example situation.

    • 5

Think of examples that reflect your ability to make a hard sell, turning a “no” into a “yes.” Perhaps you had an experience where the sales lead did not want to listen to you, but in the end you made the sale.

    • 6

Have a few rebuttals in your arsenal. This is handy if the interviewer asks you to give an example of a rebuttal you would give to a sales lead. For instance, the sales lead may inform you that he does not have extra money to buy your product. Your rebuttal can be, “Wouldn't you like some extra cash in your pocket? That's exactly why you need our product. It saves you money.”

    • 7

Exude boldness and confidence during the entire interview. Give a firm handshake and maintain eye contact when the interviewer is speaking with you. A good telemarketer does not appear timid or shy.
