Hang Curtains Behind Furniture

1
Decide where to place the curtains. If you have a sofa against a blank wall but don’t have any appropriate art to use, consider using two curtain panels behind each end of the sofa. If you have a console table beside a long wall, try hanging two curtains behind each end of the table. Curtains add texture to a blank wall and can make a boring sofa or table really stand out.

2
Select curtains. The curtains should be the focal point of the wall and should match the room's décor. For example, if you have a white wall with a white sofa, consider using bright color curtains, such as orange, to stand out. Use orange accessories to tie the room together.

Hang curtain rods from the ceiling. When using curtains behind furniture on a blank wall, it's best to hang them from the ceiling. This provides a look of elegance and can make the ceilings appear higher. Measure and mark locations for ceiling-mount brackets so the curtains will be centered behind each end of the sofa or table. Install the brackets. Slide the curtains into the rod and insert the rod into the mounting brackets. The bottom of the curtains should barely touch the floor.
Hang Curtains Along the Entire Wall

Measure the wall length and height. When covering an entire wall with curtains, it's important to measure the wall to make sure you buy enough fabric and use the properly-sized mounting system.

5
Select curtains. When selecting curtains to cover an entire wall, remember that they take up a lot of “visual space” in the room. If you use a dark color curtain, it can make the room feel darker and smaller. Make sure you purchase enough fabric to cover the length of the wall, and that the curtains are long enough to go from the ceiling to the floor.

Hang curtain rods from the ceiling. Using the same method as described in Section 1 above: insert ceiling-mount brackets, slide the curtains into the rod and insert the rod into the mounting brackets. Pull the curtains so they cover the entire wall.
