Move the appliance forward slightly, tilt it backward and place a wood block between the front legs to keep them off the ground. Propping the machine up in this way allows you to extend or retract the leveling legs as part of the balancing procedure without fully tipping over the appliance.

Shut off the water and the circuit breaker to the washer and disconnect the hot, cold and drainage pipes from the back of the appliance. You may need a pair of pliers to loosen the water connections. Unplug the power cord and gently tip the washing machine onto its side, never the back. Consider placing a towel or blanket between the washer and the floor to prevent scratches. Tipping the appliance on its side allows you to attach a pedestal.

Avoid tipping the washing machine unless it is completely necessary. Propping it up is usually sufficient to reach the underside of the appliance.
