How to Change the Light in a General Electric Profile Refrigerator
The GE Profile refrigerator uses light bulbs in the freezer and refrigerator compartments. The appliance bulbs will eventually burn out and will need to be replaced. Changing the light in a GE Profile refrigerator does require removing various lens covers. The removal process depends upon the model of refrigerator you own. When replacing bulbs, you need to unplug the refrigerator's power cord to prevent an accidental shock. Appliance bulbs are available at hardware stores and home improvement centers. Press the tabs on the sides of the upper light cover in the refrigerator compartment. Slide the cover forward and remove it from the refrigerator. Some models have a screw that needs to be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Unscrew the light bulb and screw in a replacement bulb that is the same wattage or lower. Line up the tabs on the back of the light cover with the slots in the refrigerator and slide the cover into the slots until it locks into place on the sides. Secure the cover with the retaining screw if your model is so equipped.

Twist the knob on the front of the lower lens cover counterclockwise and pull the knob away from the cover. The lower light is above the rear of the meat drawer. Lift the lower lens cover straight up and pull it out of the refrigerator.

Replace the bulb with one that is the same wattage or lower than the existing bulb. Replace the lens cover and secure it with the knob.

Open the freezer door and remove the shelf just above the freezer light lens cover. Press the sides of the lens cover with your fingers and lift straight up to disconnect it from the freezer compartment.

Remove the old bulb and replace it with a new one. Reposition the lens cover along the freezer's rear wall and push it into place until the tabs on the lens cover click into position.

Grab the front and back of the refrigerator light cover with your fingers. Squeeze the shield and twist it toward the rear of the refrigerator to pop it loose.

Unscrew the old bulb and replace it with a new one. Push the light cover back into the refrigerator until it locks into place.

Place your fingers inside the small indentation on the back of the freezer light shield. Pull the shield forward to disengage it from the freezer compartment.

Replace the old light bulb with a new one. Press the light shield back into the freezer until it locks into place.
