How to Become a Talent Manager in the Entertainment Industry
Talent managers work with actors, musicians and writers. As a talent manager in the entertainment industry, you will work with your clients, setting up appearances and performances, advising on contracts and connecting your clients to other key figures in the industry such as agents or publicists. Some talent managers hold multiple roles, acting as a manager and agent for a client. Becoming a talent manager requires a mix of industry knowledge and hard work.

1
Obtain a bachelor's degree in a related field such as marketing, public relations or business management. While many talent manager jobs do not require a formal degree, having one can set you apart from other potential candidates and teach you skills vital to your career. For example, a public relations degree will prepare you for promoting your clients to venues, agents and publicists.

2
Develop good interpersonal skills. You will need to know how to work with others in the entertainment industry, how to negotiate for your client and how to sell your client's work to venues and performance arenas. Practice speaking in public and negotiation tactics.

-
3
Research the entertainment industry. Keep current on popular venues, genres of music, leading booking agents or any other information that will keep you knowledgeable of the industry.
-
4
Apply for an internship with an established talent agency. Many talent agencies hire interns to work with talent managers. An internship will give you on-the-job training and introduce you to talent agents, club owners, record label managers and other key figures in the industry.
-
5
Create a website and business cards for yourself if you decide to start a solo career as a talent manager after your internship.
-
6
Land your first client. Many new talent managers start small by seeking out local actors or musicians. Attend local plays and clubs where musicians perform. Introduce yourself to the talent and offer your services. Leave your business cards with anyone you meet.
