This project is for an 8-by-8-foot floor. Adjustments to the measurements can be made to enlarge or reduce the floor size. Begin by preparing the floor's three layers. Two 1/2-inch thick pieces of plywood are used for the top layer; 1-by-4-inch cross braces where the floor overlaps are the middle layer; and the bottom layer consists of 1/2-inch closed-cell foam strips.

Build a lattice support for the floor with 16-by-16-inch squares. Use 1-inch thick lumber to ensure support. On the edges of the floor, overlap wood with 1-by-4-inch thick sheets. This will ensure the floor's structure and hold. Screw the lattice to the bottom of the plywood, making sure all screws are secure.

Take the foam and cut into long strips, about 1 inch thick. Glue the foam to the bottom of the lattice. Create the base of the floor, in two 4-by-8-foot sections and assemble together. Double check all screws and rough edges before allowing kids to play on the floor.
