Ribbon & Fabric Wreaths for Doors
When you think of wreaths, you might picture natural materials such as prickly pine needles, twisted branches and colorful flowers. If you prefer a more modern look, however, you can create your own incredibly simple wreath with bits of fabric and ribbon instead. The finished results of a handmade ribbon and fabric wreath are as varied as those who make them. Possibilities are nearly endless, from shimmering crimson and gold for Christmas to aqua, orange and neon pink for the summer months. If you’re a regular crafter, you may already have piles of fabric and ribbon scraps left over, awaiting a new life.

1
Cut your fabric scraps into strips 1 to 2 inches wide and 6 inches long. The strips don’t need to be exactly the same size, so don’t worry too much about measuring. Trim your ribbon pieces to a length of about 6 inches. Any ribbon width is fine.
-
2
Tie each piece of fabric or ribbon around the metal hoop with a simple knot in the middle of the piece. Push the fabric and ribbon pieces close together as you work so you can tie as many pieces as possible onto the hoop. Alternate between ribbon and fabric.

3
Turn and arrange the pieces on the hoop so you have a full wreath with the fabric and ribbon ends sticking out in all directions.
-
4
Knot a longer piece of ribbon, about 12 inches long, around the hoop at the top of the wreath. Place the knot in the center of the ribbon. Knot the two ends together two or three inches from the hoop, where you’ll want the wreath to hang. Tie the ends of this ribbon into a bow. The bow will sit on top of the nail or hook from which the wreath hangs.

Tips & Warnings
If you can’t find a wreath hoop in the right size, bend a wire hanger with pliers until it is the appropriate size and shape. Trim off excess length with wire cutters.
