Turn empty bottles into works of art.

Decoupage is the art of gluing pictures, patterns, prints, tissue paper and other paper materials onto an array of items. Glass bottles, such as those used to hold wine, can be recycled through decoupage and made into beautiful household decorations. In addition, you can fill the empty bottle with soap, olive oil, vinegar or a heavy material like sand and use it as a bookend or decorative table fixture.

Instructions

    • 1

Place newspapers on your work table or floor. Matte medium is extremely hard to clean up once it touches a surface.

    • 2

Clean glass bottles thoroughly inside and out. Remove the label and the sticky substance beneath it as much as possible. Scrape away excess glue with a razor. Wash with soap and water and let the bottle dry completely.

    • 3

Rip your decorative paper into pieces. Make the pieces different sizes and shapes in order to create an artsy effect when they're glued to the bottle.

    • 4

Paint the matte medium over one section of the bottle. Collage the ripped pieces of paper over the matte quickly before it dries. Continue in small sections until you cover the entire bottle. Let the medium dry for 15 minutes.

    • 5

Paint another layer of medium over the paper. Coat the paper in medium to seal it to the bottle. Let it dry completely.
