Reuse those toilet paper rolls in a variety of kid's crafts.

Instead of throwing away your toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls, keep them for a rainy day. The toilet paper rolls may be used in many kid's crafts from designing animals to building objects like an entire castle. Additionally, you can make an entire box of crayons from cardboard rolls. The crayon colors can be created with extra pieces of tissue paper that you may have on hand.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the toilet paper roll on its side over tissue paper. Measure the tissue paper so it is as wide or a little bit wider than the toilet paper roll. Cut approximately 12 inches of tissue paper with this width to form a large rectangle. Set the tissue paper aside.

    • 2

Stack two or three pieces of tissue paper on top of one another. Use the same color of tissue that you used in Step 1.

    • 3

Trace a round object, about 3 to 4 inches in diameter on top of the tissue paper to create a circle. The larger the circle, the taller the crayon's point will be.

    • 4

Cut out the pieces of tissue paper. Cut a slit through the paper from the outer edge to the center. This will help create the cone shape.

    • 5

Separate the pieces of tissue paper. Make a cone shape out of one piece of the tissue paper by overlapping it over itself until one end forms a point. Place this over one end of the toilet paper roll.

    • 6

Apply glue to the outer edge of one end of the toilet paper roll. Fold down the edges from the cone so it becomes flush with the roll.

    • 7

Make a cone with the other pieces of tissue paper and glue them to the roll. Let the tissue paper dry.

    • 8

Apply glue along the length of the toilet paper roll. Attach the rectangle of tissue paper from Step 1 to the roll. Continue wrapping and gluing the paper down the roll so it covers the entire toilet paper roll.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a permanent marker to write the crayon's color on the roll.
