A shower is one of the basic comforts of home, providing the simple pleasure of heat and running water. Yet if your thermostatic valve -- a mechanism you may never have heard of before -- is malfunctioning, your shower could become useless. This small part is responsible for regulating the heat of the water as it runs through the system and, if you have a Rohr product, there are steps you can take to ensure it doesn't malfunction. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Check for any dirt of debris that may have been clogged in the valve. This is often responsible for the valve being unable to regulate temperature; if you remove this buildup, you should solve the problem.

    • 2

Remedy a lack of water pressure at one of the inlets if you are finding that the hot and cold water are not mixing. You will find this is often indicative of a lack of water pressure from one of your taps and can be easily fixed.

Have an expert calibrate your valve if the water is not hot enough or too hot. These extremes often suggest the valve has been wrongly calibrated upon installation. The water heater setting may also be incorrect; it is worth checking that before calling the expert.

Clean the shower head if you are suffering from a lack of water pressure; it may not entirely be down to the valve; the shower head could be clogged. Remove the shower head and clean debris using a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water.
