How to Decoupage Fabric Onto a Bucket
Decoupage is a quick and simple way to transform ordinary items into custom works of art. You can be a decoupage artist if you can cut and glue fabric. Decoupage is traditionally created with paper cutouts, but you can use fabric as well. A trip to the fabric store can provide the inspiration necessary to decoupage fabric onto a new or used bucket. The resulting piece is suitable for gift-giving.

1
Clean the exterior and interior of the bucket. Wash the bucket with soap and water to remove any dirt or oil residue, if necessary. Dry the bucket completely.
-
2
Sand the surface lightly with fine grit sandpaper so the paint will adhere properly. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth. Spray two light coats of spray paint. Allow to dry between coats.

3
Cut decorative motifs from the fabric. Choose a mixture of large and small elements for an interesting combination. Snip any stray threads with the scissor.

4
Apply the decoupage glue to the bucket in small sections to prevent it from drying too quickly. Place a fabric motif on the decoupage glue. Smooth any wrinkles with the sponge brush or your fingers. Cover the entire bucket with fabric or allow the paint to show, if desired.

5
Apply two or three more coats of decoupage glue to the bucket exterior. Allow each coat to dry before adding additional coats. Use the bucket to display dried flowers or give it away as a gift.
