How to Make a Mini Pinwheel With a Straw
Pinwheels are toys on a stick that spin when you blow on them. Miniature pinwheels are small enough to hold in your hand; larger ones are ideal to place in your yard as a decoration. If you are looking for a fun craft to make with children, consider making mini pinwheels. This craft is relatively simple and can be tailored to fit any occasion or holiday. After making these, children will enjoy blowing on them to make them spin.

1
Choose a color of paper to use. Plain photocopy paper works best for this craft. Lay the paper out on a flat surface and cut off the end to make the paper into a square.
-
2
Measure the paper to find the center. Draw a circle about the size of a quarter in the middle of the paper.
-
-
3
Draw lines from the circle to each corner. Make four lines to divide the square paper into four triangle shapes.
-
4
Decorate the paper. Completely cover the paper in colors using markers or crayons. Draw designs or patterns until both sides of the paper are covered. Make sure you can still see the four lines on the paper.
-
5
Set the paper out with a corner facing you. Punch a hole just left to the corner. Do this to the remaining three corners, then punch a hole in the center circle.
-
6
Cut out the lines. Cut only to the center circle and use caution not to overcut.
-
7
Insert a straw into the hole in the center of the paper. Use a bendable straw so that you can bend this part over when finished. Start at one corner and fold the corner up over the straw, pushing the straw through the punched hole. Do this for the last three corners, working clockwise around the shape. Tape or glue the corners into place, being careful not to tape them onto the straw.
-
8
Insert a pencil into the straw to make the handle stronger. Fold over the bendable part of the straw to produce a beautiful pinwheel.
