How to Make a Front Post Treble Crochet Stitch

A front post treble crochet stitch, abbreviated in patterns as FP TR, wraps the yarn around the post of a stitch in the previous row. When you work a regular crochet stitch, you insert the hook under the top of a stitch in the previous row. When making a front post stitch, you insert the hook behind the vertical post of the stitch in the previous row. Treble crochet is also called triple crochet in some patterns.

Instructions

    • 1

Yarn over your crochet hook twice, counterclockwise.

    • 2

Insert the hook behind the post of the next stitch in the previous row, from right to left.

    • 3

Yarn over your hook and pull the loop from left to right through the piece, which will wrap the working yarn around the post.

    • 4

Yarn over again and pull through the first two of the four loops on your hook. You will have three loops left.

    • 5

Yarn over and pull through the next two loops. You will have two loops left.

    • 6

Yarn over and pull through the last two loops to complete the front-post treble crochet stitch.
