Distinguishing your wedding with personalized details is a key part of creating an unforgettable experience. Decorative items allow for a high degree of personalization. Incorporating the couple's monogram into the decor is one way to set a singular tone for the day. Instructions

    • 1

Sketch the shape of the letter you want to create with a pen and paper. A guide gives you a concrete visual reference of what you are trying to accomplish.

    • 2

Count the number of lines it takes to form the letter. For example, an R-shape consists of three lines: the vertical line, the curved line and the diagonal line. Note the number of lines in your letter.

    • 3

Cut a 20-inch piece of heavy-gauge floral wire for each line of the letter. Use wire cutters to cut the wire. Cut a 40-inch piece of wire for round letters like O and U.

    • 4

Arrange the pieces of wire into the desired shape. Twist the ends of wire together to connect them. Use needle-nose pliers to twist the wire, if needed. Trim any pieces that are too long for the line they are re-creating.

    • 5

Shape the wire letter with your hands to achieve a proportional shape that mirrors your sketch.

    • 6

Hold the garland material next to the wire letter to determine how long each piece of garland should be. Cut a piece of garland with shears for each line in your letter.

    • 7

Lay a piece of cut garland on top of the wire letter. Wrap fine-gauge floral wire directly from the spool around each end of the garland and letter to bind the pieces. Wrap the garland between the ends, as needed. Trim the fine-gauge wire with wire cutters once you secure the garland to the letter.

    • 8

Cover the entire letter with garland pieces.

    • 9

Trim the stems of flowers or greenery with shears. The stems should be no more than 3 inches long.

    • 10

Tuck the flower or greenery stems into the grapevine bundle. Secure the stems between pieces of grapevine to hold the embellishment in place.

    • 11

Add flowers or greenery to the garland letter until you achieve the desired final wreath.

Tips & Warnings

  • Grapevine garland is sold in the wreath section of craft stores. It is sold in a long bundle of grapevines that is usually 12 or 15 feet long, which is more than enough to make a letter wreath. Roses, daisies, violets, ivy and rose leaves are some of the flowers and leaves that you can place in the wreath. Any element with stems long and thick enough to secure between vines in the bundle are suitable for the project.
