How to Hook Up a Canon I850 to a Laptop

The Canon i850 photo printer is compatible with any computer with a USB port, including laptops. You need to install the printer drivers and software on your laptop before you can use the printer with your computer. Installing the drivers and software is a part of hooking up the printer. You need to purchase a USB printer cable; one is not supplied with the Canon i850.

      Press the "Power" button on the top of the Canon i850 to turn off the printer, if it's already on.

      Plug the square end of the USB printer cable into the USB port on the back of the printer and connect the standard end of the USB printer cable into a USB port on your laptop.

      Click "Cancel" if the "Found New Hardware Wizard" window appears on the screen.

      Insert the software disc supplied with the Canon i850 into your computer. A window with the license agreement appears on the screen.

      Click "Yes" if you agree to the license agreement and then "Install" when the "Canon" window appears. The Printer Ports window appears.

      Press the "Power" button on the printer to turn on the Canon i850. The computer detects the printer and installs the printer drivers.

      Click the box next to "Register Now," click "Next" and then follow the on-screen instructions to register your printer.
