How to Claim a Goat at a Garden Sale

How to Claim a Goat at a Garden Sale thumbnail
Claim your goat as soon as you find one you like to avoid losing out.

If you want a goat for whatever purpose, one way to get one is at a garden sale held by a farmer. While some farmers sell goats at the garden sale, others may rent them. Since there may be many goats on view at the sale, some of them may already have been claimed. Therefore, it is important to stake your claim to the goat you want early on in the sale and work out payment and pickup. You should decide beforehand what you'll be using the goat for: milk, meat, brush clearance, as a pet, or for entertainment, such as for a petting zoo.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse the selection of goats at the sale. Some sales may have directories with information on each goat. If you do not see this information, ask the goat seller for more details about the particular goat you are interested in.

    • 2

Tell the seller you want to claim a specific goat. Identify the goat by pointing it out among the other goats.

    • 3

Wait for the seller to check whether the goat is already claimed. In some cases, a buyer may have purchased a goat and left to get a trailer to pick the goat up in.

    • 4

Pay the advertised price for the goat to the seller. If you cannot take the goat right away, the seller may hold the goat for you until you return with a trailer to transport it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Note that some sellers may not hold the goat or may only allow a specific amount of time for you to pick it up. If you fail to take the goat within this time, the goat may become unclaimed and go back out for sale.
