How to Make a Paper Parasol Umbrella
Impress your party guests by making paper parasol umbrellas using decorative papers and wooden skewers. Each parasol umbrella takes only a few minutes to make and will be a great addition to drinks served at a summer barbecue, luau or birthday party. Use different types of solid and patterned scrapbook papers to make each umbrella different; seasonal papers can also be found to match your party theme, such as those with flip-flops, sunglasses or leis printed on them.

1
Cut your paper into as many circles as you want parasol umbrellas. Add variety by making your umbrellas with different colors and patterns of scrapbook paper. If you feel comfortable doing so, cut the circles freehand. Otherwise, use a round stencil to trace onto the paper and cut it out. If you do not have a stencil, trace the bottom of a soup can onto the paper to create a template.

2
Cut an angled slit in your paper circle from the outer edge to the center of the circle. Cut a second slit that is about 1/8 of the way down the circle angled towards the first slit. This will allow you to cut out a pie-shaped piece of paper from each circle.

3
Wrap the circle into a parasol umbrella shape by bringing the two sides together, allowing them to overlap slightly. Leave a small opening at the peak of the umbrella for the wooden skewer to fit through. Otherwise, you will need to poke a hole through the top. Glue together where the sides are overlapping to secure.

4
Glue the inside of the umbrella near the peak and poke a wooden skewer through the opening at the peak, so it pokes out the top slightly. If there is not sufficient room for the skewer to fit, use a little pressure to poke it through. Continue steps 2 to 4 until all of your parasol umbrellas have been assembled.
