How to Make Infant Handprints at Home

Take your infant's handprints at home and display them.

As a parent you want to capture as many memories of your child as possible. You can keep the card that was on your baby's bassinet at the hospital, his first ultrasound picture, and even create your own copies of his handprints to store in a baby book or frame and hang on the nursery wall. The good news is that it's relatively simple to get handprints from your infant, since he's not yet mobile and can't run away as you try to get a full impression on paper.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper or card stock
  • Ink

Instructions

    • 1

Select a mild, non-toxic and washable ink safe for a baby's sensitive skin.

    • 2

Press his hand onto the ink pad with his fingers spread open to cover his palm and fingers completely with ink.

    • 3

Press his hand against the paper or card stock, applying even pressure to each part of the hand to transfer the ink clearly.

    • 4

      Repeat for the other hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • Card stock is more durable than paper and will last longer.

  • If your infant is sensitive to being touched or continues to ball his fists up, try taking the handprints while he is sleeping.
