Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the shoes for painting by removing the laces and cleaning the shoes with mineral oil. This will remove the dirt from the shoes, allowing the paint to set more evenly. Allow the mineral oil to dry before painting. Tape off any areas of the shoe that you won't be painting, including the rubber soles, the metal shoelace holes and the tongue, if necessary. Stuff the shoes with newspaper so they maintain their shape while painting.

    • 2

Prepare a well-ventilated workspace by laying newspaper down on the surface where you will be painting. Ready your airbrush by loading the first color of paint that you're going to use into the gun.

    • 3

Turn on the airbrush and apply the first color of paint in the design of your choosing. Use a cardboard stencil if you want to create a more detailed or specific design. Apply the first color of paint, holding the airbrush about 1 inch from the surface of the shoe.

    • 4

Flush the airbrush with water once you've applied the first color of paint. Reload the airbrush with the next color you wish to apply, then repeat the process of painting the shoes with this color. Repeat this until you have applied all the colors.

    • 5

Allow the shoes to dry then spray on an even layer of acrylic spray coating. Allow this to dry fully before wearing your shoes.
