Necklaces with multicolored stones make suitable boho jewelry pieces.

If you are looking for a stylish, artistic and earthy type of jewelry to make, consider crafting boho jewelry. Boho jewelry is based off of the bohemian style, which embraces a combination of chic designs with organic materials. The bohemian culture is embedded in individualism and eccentricity, which plays out in fashion. If you make boho jewelry, you can start from scratch to create your own pieces or you can touch up ordinary objects and wear them as jewelry to make a boho fashion statement. Keep in mind that boho jewelry consists primarily of beads and stones, ceramics and silver.

Instructions

  1. Memory Wire Bracelet

    • 1

Make a memory wire bracelet that wraps multiple times around the wrist and up the arm. Use memory wire as the base of the bracelet, which has a coiling effect. Measure the amount of wire that you want to use based on how many times you want it wrap it around the wrist. Cut the desired amount from the spool with wire cutters.

    • 2

Use needle-nose pliers to loop and pinch one of the ends down. Take the pliers in your hand and grab one of the ends of the memory wire. Twist the wire over itself forming a loop. Pinch down in the corner where the wire connects so that you end up with a secure loop that will not allow any of the beads that you string onto the bracelet to slip off the end.

    • 3

Bead the necklace with assorted beads and stones. For a boho look, do not keep everything the same and perfectly matching. It is appropriate to mix up various types of stones, such as turquoise, tiger's eye and jade. You can use some large stones with smaller ones in between, or go for a chunkier look by selecting only large stones to work with.

    • 4

Close the other end of the memory wire bracelet by making another loop with the needle-nose pliers. Now the bracelet should wrap around the wrist without any of the beads and stones sliding off.

    Leather Bands

    • 5

Create boho jewelry, such as bracelet bands, out of strips of leather. Look for old leather items that you have lying around the house, such as leather purses or jackets with holes that you can no longer use.

    • 6

Cut out a strip of the leather that is 1-inch wide and long enough to wrap around the wrist.

    • 7

Attach snap buttons or fasteners to the ends of the leather strip. This allows the strip to open and close with a snap and be worn as jewelry. Insert the snap side with the prongs into the leather, pushing down to puncture the leather. Bend the prongs back on the underside so that the snap fastener will stay put.

    • 8

Apply fabric adhesive to the second snap fastener on the opposite end of the leather strip. Press it down into the leather to make sure the connection is made and is strong. Now you can snap the leather band shut when you want to wear it and take it off by unsnapping the fastener.

    Braided String Anklets

    • 9

Make braided string anklets to wear on your ankles. The boho fashion look incorporates braids in the hair, on clothes or in jewelry.

    • 10

Cut equal lengths of assorted craft string. Select six pieces of string to use so that you can double up on the thickness of the braid. Tie a knot at one end so that all of the strings connect at the top.

    • 11

Braid the string, two strings at a time. Fan out the double strings so that you have three sections to work with. Fold the left section over the middle section, and then the right section over the left section. The section that was originally in the middle becomes the new right section. Continue the pattern by bringing the right section over the middle section, and so on.

    • 12

Leave extra string at the ends of the braids. Knot the second end -- thereby keeping the braid intact -- and tie the two ends together to secure the braided anklet around your ankle.
