How to Make Beach Wedding Flip Flops

Planning a beach wedding presents some challenges that don't occur with a traditional indoor wedding. The clothing choices for a beach wedding can be casual and relaxed and shoe options need to complement the wedding attire. For a fun and relaxed look that is comfortable, consider wearing flip-flops. Decorate flip-flops to match the colors that you have chosen for your party or to highlight the beach theme. For extra fun at your wedding shower, decorate the sandals along with members of your bridal party.

Things You'll Need

• Plain-colored flip-flop sandals
• 4 feet of transparent elastic beading string
• Scissors
• Beads
• Hot glue gun
• Silk ribbon
• Silk flowers

Instructions

1. Start your project with a plain-colored pair of sandals with standard straps.

2. Cut the transparent elastic beading string into two pieces, each measuring 2 feet long. Each flip-flop will require one piece of string.

3. Tie one piece of string to the bottom left part of the strap of the first flip-flop to create a starting point for beading. Secure the string with a double knot.

4. Arrange the string so that it wraps around the sandle strap in a corkscrew pattern. Hold the string in place with one hand to maintain tension and use the other hand to string the beads. Ensure that the string stays taut so that the beads do not move and lose the shape of the design that you create. Continue wrapping and beading on the right side of the strap.

5. Pull the string tight after you finish attaching the beads to the entire sandal strap. Tie a small knot after the last bead to hold the beads in place. Tie the beaded string in place with a double knot when you reach the end of the sandal strap. Be sure that the string is not loose.

6. Secure all knots by applying a bead of hot glue over each each knot.

Tips & Warnings

• Use silk ribbon that matches the colors for your wedding for another way to decorate your flip-flops. Starting at one end of the sandal straps, wrap a silk ribbon all the way around both straps. Tie it tightly once you reach the end of the opposite strap. Sew or glue silk flowers onto the ribbon or attach small seashells with hot glue to complement your beach wedding theme.
