How to Crochet a Toy Spider
This fuzzy little crocheted spider makes a cuddly toy as well as cute decoration for Halloween. The spider requires less than a skein of yarn to crochet and you can easily stitch it within an hour or so. Best suited for the advanced beginner crocheter, this project uses only basic stitches such as single crochet and double crochet. If you are still new to crochet, practice and familiarize yourself with these fundamental techniques before attempting this spider pattern.
Things You'll Need
- Size 6 crochet hook
- 1 skein black medium-weight wool
- 1 skein yellow medium-weight wool
- Yarn needle

Chain 4 stitches. Work 11 double crochet stitches in the fourth chain from the hook. Chain 3 and double crochet in the third chain from the hook. Make two double crochet stitches in each stitch around.

Chain 3. Double crochet in the third stitch from the hook and double crochet the next stitch. Double crochet twice in the next stitch, double crochet the following stitch and repeat around. Chain 3. Double crochet in the third stitch from the hook. Double crochet the next 2 stitches. Work 2 double crochets in the next stitch, double crochet the next 2 stitches and repeat around. Chain 3. Double crochet in the third stitch from the hook. Double crochet the next 3 stitches. Work two double crochets in the next stitch, double crochet the next 3 stitches and repeat around.

Chain 1. Single crochet the first stitch. Skip the next 2 stitches. Work 4 double crochets in each of the next 2 stitches, then skip the following 2 stitches. Single crochet each remaining stitch around. Slip the first stitch, chain 4 and triple crochet the next stitch. Work 2 triple crochet stitches in the next 7 stitches. Skip 2 stitches and slip stitch the next stitch.

Slip stitch the next 4 stitches. Chain 10. Single crochet in the second stitch from the hook and single crochet the next 8 stitches. Repeat four times.

Slip stitch each of the next 16 stitches. Crochet 10, single crochet the second stitch from the hook and in each of the next 8 stitches. Repeat. Slip stitch the next 4 stitches; skip the last 2 stitches. Fasten off. Weave in any loose ends.

Thread a strand of yellow yarn onto your yarn needle. Embroider two eyes and a mouth, completing your toy spider.
