How to Crochet a Beaded Spiral
Crocheting with beads can bring a whole new element to your crochet repertoire. Crochet a beaded spiral and make rope out of your crocheting that you can wear as a bracelet or necklace or use to decorate your home. This particular type of rope would be ideal to make curtain tiebacks, garland or trim around a wreath in home decor uses. You will need to understand crocheting in the round to attempt this project.
Things You'll Need
- Nylon cord, no. 2
- Beading needle
- Beads, size E/6.0
- Steel crochet hook, 1.75 mm

1
Thread a bead needle onto your nylon cord, then string approximately 100 beads onto the cord. Push the beads toward the base or spool of the cord to keep them out of the way until needed.
-
2
Make a slip knot on your crochet hook using the end of the nylon cord. Make six chain stitches, then join the last stitch to the first with a slipstitch to form a ring.

3
Insert your crochet hook into the next chain, then pull a bead up the yarn so it is adjacent to the hook. Yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook; this makes one beaded slipstitch.
-
4
Repeat step three around the circle so that you have worked five beads into your ring.
-
5
Continue to make bead stitches within each bead stitch so your work will spiral around. To do this, insert your hook into the bead stitch, pull up a new bead, yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. Do this for every stitch, working around and around until your rope is the desired length.

6
Work one more round without beads. To do this, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook. Repeat this around with the remaining stitches, then cut the cord and pull it all the way through one final stitch to secure it.

Tips & Warnings
Sew the ends together to create a loop for a bracelet or necklace, or add a toggle closure on the ends.
Leave the ends of the cord open and simply drape the cord around a wreath or other area of your home as decoration.
Make a larger spiral by using thicker yarn and bigger beads.
If you run out of beads, cut the working thread approximately 4 inches away from the last round or stitch. String new beads onto the spool of thread and then pick up the new strand of thread and work with it to finish the bracelet. Weave in the ends on the inside of the bracelet when you finish.
If you have extra beads left over at the end, simply slide them off the strand of thread and put them back into their container for storage.
To make a chain stitch, bring the yarn up and over the hook from the back to the front (yarn over). Catch the yarn in the hook and pull it through the loop on the hook.
To make a slipstitch, insert the hook into the stitch indicated. Yarn over and draw through the stitch and the loop on the hook simultaneously.
