How to Measure Tapered Glass Fittings
A glass fitting can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. They are often used as a bottle stop for glass bottles or for shower fittings. A tapered glass fitting is one that is etched out or grooved on the end. When you are measuring glass fittings, it is sometimes necessary to determine the dimensions of each piece. This will let you know if you can use the glass fitting for your particular application. Measuring a tapered glass fitting is similar to measuring any other type of glass. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Wipe down the glass fitting with a clean rag to make it easier to measure and see the measurements. Add dish soap and water to the rag, if necessary.
-
2
Record all of the various measurements of the size of the tapered glass fitting. Run a tape measure from one end to the other and write down the measurements for both the length and width of the glass fitting.
-
-
3
Measure the thickness of the glass fitting at three separate locations along the top edge to determine the exact size of the tapered edge. Measure at the first corner and record the measurement of the thickness to the nearest mark on the tape measure. Measure directly in the center of the glass fitting and record that measurement. Measure along the other edge and record that measurement.
-
4
Compare all of the measurements and determine how much the tapered edge varies from the middle to the sides. This number will vary depending on what type of glass fitting you are measuring. Repeat the process for any other glass fittings you need to measure.
