How to Make a Paper Cylinder With a Wide Bottom and Narrow Top
A cylinder is a hollow geometric figure with straight parallel sides and a circular section. When you make certain adjustments, you can change the shape of a paper cylinder into other shapes such as a cone or funnel. A funnel is narrow at one end, wide at the other and often used to pour liquid or dry ingredients into a bottle or other item with a small opening.
Things You'll Need
- Paper plate
- Scissors
- Transparent tape
- Compass
- 8 1/2-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper
Instructions
-
Paper Plate
-
1
Fold the plate in half to form a half circle and then fold the half circle in half again.
-
2
Unfold the plate to see four circular triangles.
-
-
3
Cut out one of the triangles from the outer edge to the middle.
-
4
Roll one edge of the plate to overlap the other edge and form the shape of a cone. Tape the end of the cone to secure it in place.
-
5
Cut off the point of the cone to form a funnel. Only cut a small piece from the point so that the funnel opening isn't too large.
Compass and Paper
-
6
Use the compass and a pencil to draw a four-inch diameter circle.
-
7
Cut out the circle and discard the remaining scraps of paper.
-
8
Fold the circle in half and then fold it in half again. Unfold the circle to see four triangles.
-
9
Cut out one of the triangles from the outer edge to the middle.
-
10
Roll one edge of the plate to overlap the other edge and form the shape of a cone. Tape the end of the cone to secure it in place.
-
11
Cut off the point of the cone to form a funnel. Only cut a small piece from the point so that the funnel opening isn't too large.
