Get one of your friends to dress as the Big Bad Wolf and attend the party as a fun literary pair.

Little Red Riding Hood is an eminently recognizable figure and thus is a popular character at costume parties and at Halloween. There is no need to spend excess money or time on a costume, however. Make a riding hood of simple design that is easy to tailor. It will be just as much of a success at parties as if you had spent hours instead of minutes on your costume.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 yard red fabric
  • 1 spool red thread
  • 1 yard red ribbon
  • Pins
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your fabric into a large semicircle. Fold down the edges on all sides 1/4 inch, pin in place, and sew to secure. Remove pins. In the same direction, fold down the newly sewn edge 1 inch, pin in place, and sew with a 5/8 inch seam. You now have a semicircle with clean, finished edges.

    • 2

Place the center of the flat edge of the semicircle over your head, hanging to your forehead. Tie the red ribbon around the fabric at your neck and secure with a bow in front.

    • 3

Pull some fabric up through the ribbon around your neck until your hood is of the desired fullness. Pull evenly from all sides so the cloak is the same length on all sides. Your red riding hood is complete.
