DIY Queen of Hearts Child's Costume
When Halloween time comes around, you want your kid to get the treats and not the tricks. Bringing her out in a smashing homemade costume will garner her admiration and candy all night long. Many people turn to movies and books for their costume ideas, but going a traditional route allows your creativity to flow and your child to look unique. You don't have to be a master crafter to make a heartwarming Queen of Hearts Halloween costume.
Things You'll Need
- Posterboard
- Scissors
- Red felt
- Glue
- Black marker
- Colored markers
- Digital camera

Cut the posterboard to fit your child's frame. The posterboard should end just above her knees so that she can easily move around. It should be wide enough to cover her arms. Measure the child's head and arms against the board and cut a hole in it to fit her face. Cut two additional holes that allow her arms to pass through.

Line the holes with red felt so that the board will not rub against her skin. Cut red hearts out of the felt and glue them to either diagonal corner. Print a black "Q" next to the hearts with a marker. Fill in the queen's traditional lined shoulders and chest with blue, red and yellow marker. Have the child model the costume and snap a digital photo.

Develop the photo at a Kinko's or similar store, using the dimensions of the posterboard for sizing. You'll need it to be the exact width and half the height. Turn the photo upside down, and glue it to the bottom of the posterboard. This will provide a unique mirror effect to the costume, creating an authentic Queen of Heart's costume.
