How to Make Paper Japanese Chef Hats
If you want to imitate your favorite sushi chef, or just want to construct a costume for Halloween, you can make paper Japanese chef hats. Japanese chef hats differ from other cultures as they are shorter and straighter. They are normally made of white material, but some chefs wear dark blue or black hats. You do not need to be an expert tailor to construct a Japanese chef hat. A sturdy chef hat can be constructed out of regular paper.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- 25-by-6 inch sheet of white paper
- Large white paper

1
Measure the circumference of your head using a tape measure. For example, assume the circumference of your head is 23 inches.
-
2
Add 2 inches to the circumference of your head for the width of the paper. The width of the paper is 25 inches, and its height is 6 inches. Measure and cut a piece of white paper to the dimensions of 25 by 6 inches using scissors.

-
3
Overlap 1 inch of each edge, and connect the edges of the paper together using rubber cement. Allow the rubber cement dry for one hour. The connected paper makes a cylinder with a height of 6 inches.
-
4
Place the cylinder on a piece of white paper. Trace the circular portion of the cylinder onto the paper using a pencil.
-
5
Cut the circle with a diameter 1 inch larger than the diameter of the cylinder. The extra paper will be used to attach the top of the hat to the cylinder.
-
6
Punch 10 to 20 holes around the center of the circle. The holes release the hot air and moisture inside the chef hat.
-
7
Bend a 1-inch edge inward around the paper circle. Brush rubber cement on the outside of the edges, and attach the edges of the circle to the top inside walls of the cylinder. Allow the rubber cement dry for one hour.
