How to Make Keychains Out of Silverware
Old silverware can find its way to the donation bin, end up in the trash, or create an unsightly and confusing mess in your kitchen drawers. Instead of throwing out your old forks and spoons, transform them into attractive key chains you can give as gifts or sell at a local craft market. Making key chains out of silverware is not overly complicated, and does not require a mastery of any complex tools -- just a bit of patience and a little hard work.
Things You'll Need
- Old fork or spoon
- Tin snips
- Metal file
- Needle nose pliers
- Keying
- Chrome polish
- Clean cloth
Instructions

1
Snip the end of the fork or spoon off with a pair of tin snips. This leaves you with only the decorated handle.
-
2
Smooth out the cut with a metal file to get rid of any sharp edges that can accidentally scratch or poke.
-
-
3
Grab the very tip of the cut end of the silverware piece with a pair of needle nose pliers.
-
4
Fold the end around behind itself, creating a small loop.
-
5
Slide the keying into the loop and lock it in place by tightening the loop with pliers.
-
6
Polish the keychain with a bit of chrome polish and a clean cloth to bring it back to its original shine.
