Riding a Skateboard
You can perform any number of tricks on a skateboard, from a simple kick flip to leaping 60 feet into the air on a megaramp. However, before you set off on a path to become the next big skateboarding sensation, you must master the most basic of skateboarding moves — riding your skateboard without falling over. Once you feel comfortable riding your skateboard, you will be able to unlock a wide range of new tricks through practice, determination and a few bumps and bruises.

1
Check to determine whether you ride “goofy” or “regular.” Most people ride a skateboard with their left foot forward, known as “regular” stance. People who place their right foot forward ride “goofy.” If you’ve never ridden a skateboard and aren’t sure how to tell, try running across a tile floor in your socks and sliding to a stop. Whichever foot you naturally put first goes on the front of your board.
-
2
Place your front foot on the skateboard, covering the four bolts close to the nose (the front end of the board). Your toes should face forward.
-
-
3
Push the board forward with your back foot, keeping your weight centered on the board.
-
4
Place your back foot on the tail of the board, and rotate your front foot so the toes face the side.
-
5
Steer the board by pushing your heels or toes down, depending on which way you want to go. Shift your weight with the board so it does not slip out from under you.
-
6
Shift your weight to your front foot, and place your back foot on the ground, dragging it until the board comes to a stop.

Tips & Warnings
Always wear protective gear when skateboarding. Pads and a helmet can prevent minor injuries that will keep you off your board for weeks at a time.
